Woman found dead by son

ROME – A woman was found dead in the bedroom of her apartment at dawn on Wednesday, police officials report.
The 65-year-old woman, who lived in the area of Appio in Rome, was found half-naked on the floor of her bedroom with a clothes peg fixed on her nose and a cushion over her face. It was her 25-year-old son who found her and raised the alarm.
On being questioned by the police, the son reported that he had been sleeping in his bedroom nearby, but had “heard nothing.” He raised the alarm after finding his mother dead and members of the Appio Nuovo police force and forensic experts shortly rushed to the scene.
The son is reported to have added that the woman had lost her house keys a few days previously, but on police first inspection it appeared that the door to the apartment had been properly closed without any sign of abnormality.
As it stands the police have not yet verified anything and all possibilities, including murder, are being considered.
