International cooperation at Holy Jubilee

Polish police on duty at the Vatican

VATICAN CITY - In an unprecedented display of international security operation, officers from all over the world have started working with the Italian police force for the Holy Jubilee.

Officers from the Spanish Police force, Polish Police and the New York Police Department have arrived in Rome and will be used in joint patrols with agents of the State Police and Carabinieri to collaborate at the services planned for the Holy Year.

International operative units have been employed for the opening of the Holy Door in the two basilicas of San Giovanni in Laterano and San Paolo Fuori le Mura.

They will cooperate with Italian officials in specific institutional tasks, such as the facilitation and the exchange of information with the Police concerning the presence of pilgrims and other tourists from their home countries and they will facilitate any contact between them and the authorities of local police or with consular and diplomatic authorities in Italy.

Polish and US officials will serve in their respective uniforms, so that they are visible and immediately recognisable by their countrymen, to whom they will be able to provide information, support and assistance.

The Rome police will coordinate all joint patrols in close collaboration with the International Operation Division of the SCIP, which, with the network of liaison officers and experts for Security and counterparts Europol and IMEST (INTERPOL Major Events Support Team), allows the exchange of intelligence information necessary to ensure the safety of the Jubilee.
