Lombardy bans burqa and niqab in hospitals

Women in niqabs

Milan - The modification in the regulation for access to regional structures has been approved by the president of Lombardy Roberto Maroni, officials said. According to the new rule Thursday, people with covered faces have to be dismissed even from hospitals.

The regulations discussed on the Board meeting were implemented due to the jihadists attacks in Paris.

The rule refers to the current national legislation, which do not allow the officers precisely to shoot without being recognized. Regulations will increase control in cities facilities and not to let anyone wearing helmets or traditional clothing such as burqa or niqab that some Muslim women used to wear.

"We decided to modify the rules. Now, those who control the inputs, will have to reject those, who present themselves with their faces covered.," confirmed Maroni.

The change was strongly supported by the Northern League in particular by its regional director Fabio Rolfe. Few days ago, the politician had published a photo on his Facebook profile, which present a woman covered by nihab holding an infant in the hospital. "This photo was taken a few days ago at a hospital in Brescia." wrote Rolfe. "Enforcing the ban on wearing masks in public places, even within the regional health facilities. I will take the issue in the region, if someone does not fit, you can always return to give birth to their country." politician added on Facebook.

Managers of health facilities in Lombardy have until December 31 to comply.
