Trevi Fountain bubbling once again

ROME - The tourist-famed Trevi Fountain has been opened again, after months of restoration.
Tourists and locals applauded at one of the final stages of the renovation, which began in June last year and cost more than 2 million euros and which was entirely funded by the fashion house Fendi.
During the restoration work, which took 17 months (516 days), the city's largest baroque fountain still attracted 3 million visitors. A transparent fence was set up to allow people to still admire the structure, which is well-known for being a symbol of Fellini’s La Dolce Vita.
Fendi said in a statement that the transparent paneling of the fence had made it possible for visitors "to physically enter into this artistic masterpiece of international renown, and to get closer than ever before”. A body of water was created in the middle of the gangway, so that tourists could still partake in the tradition of tossing a coin into the fountain.
The restoration also had a website dedicated to it, www.restaurofontanaditrevi.it, as well as an App "Trevi Fountain" for smartphones and Android devices that allowed visitors, within a distance of 200 meters, to take a selfie with the QR code in sight, and they will then receive their photos by mail. With the smartphone application, it was also possible for tourists to virtually throw coins into the fountain.
The fountain, considered one of the most famous in the world, was revealed on Tuesday in all its beauty, officially being returned to the city.
