Meridiana celebrates Naples-JFK service

10 years since the first Naples-New York flight took place

NAPLES — Meridiana and GESAC, Naples International Airport, have celebrated the 10 year anniversary of the Naples-New York JFK service.

The first flight took place in June 2005 and was operated twice weekly, by an Airbus 330 in the Eurofly livery, in service from Naples Capodichino Airport to New York JFK.

At its conception the Naples-New York flight represented a new project. In fact, offering a flight to the United States directly from the main airport in southern Italy, was a real challenge, in comparison to the choices offered by the large carriers, which operated exclusively from/to major European hubs.

This route, with more than 250,000 passengers carried over 10 years, is nowadays operated by a Boeing 767, in the Meridiana livery, with 254 economy seats and 18 Electa, Meridiana business class.

During the Ceremony, Andrea Andorno, Meridiana Chief Commercial Officer, declared: "We carried more than 40,000 passengers in 2015, from April to October, and we will increase up to 65% the seats offered in 2016, operating in the peak season on a daily basis. Load factor in 2015 was always up to 90% and on-time performance was extremely positive.”

In order to celebrate this anniversary with all its supporters, Meridiana will launch a Halloween promotional fare on October 31 for both the US and the Italian markets.
