Police, drug dealers exchange gunfire on Raccordo ring road

ROME- Police Saturday were hunting for a gang of drug dealers who had a gun battle with police on the ringroad around the Eternal City before disappearing with a sackful of choice marijuana, police said.
The dealers opened fire on police agents at the climax of a wild 30 minute chase on the Raccordo motorway after speeding a stolen Fiat Punto car through a police roadblock in the Torre Angela area and hurtling along the motorway from the Casilina exit, ending up around Appio-Gregna Sant'Andrea area where they ditched the car and exchanged lead with their pursuers.
Motorists scattered as police tailgated the Punto but the three men inside vanished as police preferred not to get to close to the hail of gunfire.
