ROME – Juventus have reportedly set their sights on signing Mario Goetze from Bayern Munich after the German giants completed a 36 million euro deal for Arturo Vidal on Monday.

Having lost one of the integral parts of last season’s success in the Chilean Vidal, I bianconeri are seeking to necessarily strengthen their midfield in the attempt to go one better this year and claim victory in the Champions League.

Mario Goetze, at just 23 years old, already has 45 caps and 14 international goals to his name, including the decisive strike that gave Germany victory over Argentina in last year's World Cup final.

Although not a direct replacement for Vidal, his creativity and passing ability is what manager Massimiliano Allegri is looking for having further lost the ageing, talismanic Andrea Pirlo to New York City.

The Croatian Mario Mandzukic, Sami Khedira and Paulo Dybala from Palermo have already completed transfers to the Italian club who have been no stranger to spending this summer as they prepare to defend their Serie A and Coppa Italia titles.

The Turin-based side have also entered negotiations with another German outfit Schalke 04, in pursuit of the 21-year-old highly-rated Julian Draxler to bolster their midfield.

In any case, it is hoped that the European highlights from last year for the club will set a precedence for Italian football as a whole as it seeks to return to relevance amongst football’s elite amid fears that it may be in decline.

With other high profile names such as the Brazilian playmaker Oscar and Real Madrid’s Isco currently linked with the club, Juventus are certainly showing that they intend to compete with the very best in Europe in the oncoming seasons.
