Real Madrid next up for Italian champions Juventus

Welshman Gareth Bale scored when the two sides met last season

ROME - A goal from Chilean midfielder Arturo Vidal was enough to earn Juventus a 1-0 win away against Sampdoria on Saturday and clinch a fourth consecutive Serie A title. The Italian side now turn their attention to a mouth-watering Champions League semi-final first leg, against defending champions Real Madrid on Tuesday.

Needing only a draw from their match against sixth place Sampdoria, Juventus secured a win to guarantee a 31st league title and a fourth in succession. A Stephan Lichtsteiner cross on 32 minutes was headed home by Arturo Vidal for the decisive breakthrough, with Carlos Tevez narrowly missing a chance to double the Juve lead after half time. Sampdoria's Gonzalo Bergessio spurned a late opportunity to equalise but the Bianconeri's resolute defence held firm and ensured an end of season party for the Juventus faithful.

Massimiliano Allegri's men will not be allowed to rest on their laurels however, as a storm in the form of Real Madrid, is looming on the horizon. The Spanish heavyweights are looking to become the first team in the modern era to defend a UEFA Champions League crown and have been installed as heavy favourites ahead of Tuesday's first leg.

With the likes of Ronaldo, James and Isco leading the Real Madrid line, Juventus' stoic defence will once again be required to play an important role. The experience of Barzagli and Chiellini proved to be invaluable in keeping two clean sheets against a Monaco side who had previously run rampant against Arsenal, and Allegri will be looking for his two defensive leaders to take an even greater responsibility this time round.

The Spaniards have received a couple of welcome boosts this week in their quest for the "Oncima," as Gareth Bale made a return to the side as a substitute in Saturday's 3-2 win away at Sevilla, and there is a also a good chance that Frenchman Karim Benzema could feature against Juventus. Cristiano Ronaldo will also pose a dangerous threat, with the Portuguese superstar fresh off a 25th Real Madrid hat-trick at the weekend.

In spite of having to face the galacticos which form the major part of Real Madrid's line up, Juventus have arguably been lucky with the semi-final draw. The other fixture sees Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich face a Barcelona side which annihilated Cordoba 8-0 on Saturday.

With the likes of Carlos Tevez, Madrid old boy Alvaro Morata and Andrea Pirlo pulling the strings, Juventus will certainly fancy themselves to create opportunities when facing the often shaky Real Madrid defence. However, having said this, the first leg is of crucial importance to the home side. Juventus can ill afford to concede a lead to the opposition, as the second leg will be played in front of 80,000 Madridistas at the intimidating Santiago Bernabeu in a week's time.
