Murder Rocks Torpignattara

ROME – Less than a week after the brutal stabbing death of a 52-year old Romanian man, the murder of yet another immigrant has rocked the Torpignattara district of Rome.
Late on Thursday night, on Ludovico Pavoni street, local residents reported that a heavily intoxicated, 28 year old Pakistani man by the name Khan Mohamed Shandaz, was harassing passersby’s with inflammatory language, threatening gestures and even going so far as to spit on those unfortunate enough to get to close.
Police report that shortly after midnight Mr. Shandaz began an altercation with an unnamed 17-year old Roman man. The events surrounding the circumstances that lead to the death of the 28 year old are not exactly clear.
Witnesses report that shortly after a verbal confrontation began between the two men, they made their way together to the nearby park of Villa De Sanctis, a park usually reserved for picnickers, families and parents with young children.
Shortly after the men entered the park, in front of dozens of witnesses and several children, Mr. Shandaz is said to have spit in the face of the 17 year old, sparking a physical altercation that would ultimately end in his death.
Although the whole story surrounding the fight is not entirely clear, most witnesses say that both men threw punches, but the party responsible for initiating the violence remains unsure. The fight ended with police arriving on the scene to find a blood covered Mr. Shandaz on the ground, with the 17-year old Roman standing over his unconscious body. Mr. Shandaz died shortly after being brought to the hospital.
The 17-year old Roman is currently being brought up on manslaughter charges but there are numerous factors which could potentially alter the case and determine the boy’s fate in court. According to a report by Crimeblog.it, Mr. Shandaz had an extensive criminal record, which could weigh on the courts decision. And if Mr. Shandaz is found to have initiated the violence which would ultimately end in his death, that to could play a large factor in the courts decision surrounding the fate of the 17 year old Roman.
This death is just one example of what residents say, is the crime wave that has taken the once peaceful Roman district of Torpignattara by storm.
"This villa and these roads are unsafe: robberies take place and many are taking drugs" said one local woman who wished to remain unidentified.
