Appeal court hands Knox 28 years

FLORENCE–An appeal court handed Amanda Knox a 28 year prison term for murdering Meredith Kercher.

Raffaelo Solletico,Knox's ex boyfriend, received a 25 year prison term from the Florence appeal court Thursday evening for the 2007 murder of the British student, who was found stabbed to death in Perugia. Knox was in the United States at her mother`s home when the verdict was read out.

Neither of them will have to go to prison before a final supreme court ruling that will examine a final appeal, probably next year. Knox told ABC news she was “frightened and saddened” by the verdict. “Having been found innocent in the past,I expected better from the Italian judicial system.”

The prison term handed down to Knox included two and half years for “aggravated calumny” against Patrick Lumumba, a black bar manager who Knox falsely implicated in the slaying in an apparent attempt to extricate herself. A retrial was ordered by the supreme court after the two initially were freed on appeal by a Perugia court.
