Beijing Dance enchants Italy
ROME–Beijing's Academic Dance Company is performing at Genoa's Carlo Felice Theatre, revealing China's stunning dance tradition.
Classical Chinese dance, thought to have acquired wisdom throughout the generations, has become a complete art that encloses an interior meaning. Chinese dance, rarely seen in Western countries, is highly appreciated thanks to the Beijing Academic Dance Company, critics say. The Company performances in Genoa will continue until Sunday, Jan. 19.
"The Song of Harmony," "The Rainbow Fairies" and "The Yellow River" are a few of the many titles of the ballets in programme at the Carlo Felice.
The traditional Chinese dance uses a fan, the sword, and long sleeves or long ribbons. The Company plans to alternate between complete dances, Opera, and acrobatic dances with historical and national themes.
These dances are inspired by characters from Chinese literature and also by martial arts, such as Wu Shu (Art of the Arms), Ba Gua (Martial Art of the Eight diagrams) as well as being based upon the Chinese philosophy of Yin and Yang.
The director responsible for the Company in Italy, Xu Hang, says the goal of the show is to, "represent through the dance the national Chinese spirit aimed to develop and strengthen the cultural connections between China and all the other nations that it will visit."
