Pope Leo undergoes surgery for lung cancer

VATICAN CITY – Pope Leo XIV underwent succesful surgery to move a cancerous tumour in his lung at Gemelli Hospital in Rome on Tuesday afternoon, the Vatican confirmed.
In a press statement, the Vatican also confirmed that the Pope has cancelled all of his audiences until Tuesday 20, including the Sunday Angelus, to allow for his recovery.
The pontiff announced on Sunday that he had taken the decision to undergo surgery after doctors had found a nodule on his lung following a routine check-up. At the time of discovery it was unknown if the nodule was cancer or not, however following surgery the Vatican confirmed that Leo had been diagnosed with lung adenocarcinoma, the most common subtype of cancer which develops in glands that secrete mucus.
The Vatican confirmed that the Pope underwent a 90 minute surgery with "no complications."
