Antonella Bundu wittily responds to racist abuse

 FLORENCE - Antonella Bundu, candidate for governor of Tuscany in the upcoming regional elections with the independent list “Toscana Rossa”, has chosen to denounce the wave of racist insults she has received on social media, reports Il Fatto Quotidiano.

 She has posted a photo of her holding a banana with the caption, “in the photo, an Italian woman kindly offers a banana to those who have learned to throw them at her.” She also recounted how the whole affair began.

 The insults began after a tweet on X by Francesca Totolo, a far-right activist and contributor to CasaPound’s magazine Il Primato nazionale, commenting on Bundu’s presence at the “international Anti-Racist Meeting in Cecina”, held in the town in the province of Livorno.

 “A tweet,” explains the Toscana Rossa candidate, “where I am described as a Sierra Leonean with Italian citizenship. Clearly not to explain a dual identity, as if it were something extra. No. it is doen to emphasise that I am not like her. That my Italianness is an addition, a concession, not a right.”

 At the end of the post are all the offensive comments against the Tuscan candidate: “Go back where you came from”, “monkeys out of Italy”, “you must not impose your Muslim religion, go back to Africa”.

 Bundu ironically points out that she is now an atheist and was even baptised in Florence. But, returning to a serious tone, the gubernatorial candidate emphasises that this wave of xenophobic comments she has received is yet another example of how deeply rooted “a racist and fascist culture that has never really been defeated” is.

 Bundu therefore reiterates her call for the dissolution of CasaPound: “We can no longer accept that in a country born out of the Resistance, those who openly refer to fascism still have political and media influence”.
