Assassin of Maurizio Gucci dies in hospital after attempting to murder his son

Benedetto Ceraulo, 63, who died of suicide.

ROME – On Monday police announced that Benedetto Ceraulo, 63, the infamous killer of business man Maurizio Gucci, who was hired by Patrizia Reggiani, died the evening prior, 7 days after he shot both his son Gaetano, 37, twice and himself in the head.

Ceraulo served 28 years in prison for the infamous Gucci murder, which took place in Milan in 1995 and had been released a few years ago due to good behaviour in Prison. On April 22 in the house where he lived in Santa Maria a Monte, Pisa, he fired two gunshots at his 37-year-old son Gaetano's face, then held the gun to his own head with the intention to commit suicide. According to police reports, after an argument had broken out over a scratch on a car, Ceraulo shot at his son and was then taken already in very serious conditions to the Cisanello hospital in Pisa, where he died 7 days later.

He was then accused and ‘arrested’ for attempted murder for trivial reasons, with the aggravating circumstance of specific recidivism and possession of an illegal weapon, meaning that he had to be guarded during his brief stay in intensive care.

Two days after his father had shot him, his son Gaetano Ceraulo published a statement on Facebook saying that, "the greatest pain, at this moment, is for you who committed a terrible and vile act. I am not referring to the harm done directly to me, nor to the threats to my dog, Arturo. I am referring to the even more vile act you directed at yourself. Bullets can only wound or kill the flesh. The pain of the soul, on the other hand, is indelible."

He continued, “life is sacred, it must be defended always and in any case: whether it is that of a puppy, a mouse or a being, even that of a person, who has lost his way. I forgive you for the harm you have done to me. But I cannot forgive you for what you have inflicted on yourself. May the God you so adored and prayed to look into your heart, recognize your sins, and offer you the strength to cross this darkness. And perhaps, truly change. But if He decides to interrupt your earthly life then may He still forgive you and welcome you into His arms. And forgive us too, for not having seen that evil was hidden in you, silent, waiting to show itself”.
