ROME-The Vice President of the United States, JD Vance, landed in Rome early this morning. He is expected to meet Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni at 1pm, in Palazzo Chigi.

Donald Trump had met with Giorgia Meloni a day prior in Washington DC, to discuss trade between the US and EU, and Trump’s raise on tariff prices.

Vance, along with his wife Usha and their children, landed at Ciampino airport at 7:44am. They were welcomed in an area normally utilized for the 31st wing of the air force, by Irene Castagnoli (diplomat of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs), Shawn Crowley (Charge d’Affairs of the Untied States Embassy), and Colonel Marco Angori (Commander of the 31st wing of the Italian air force).

Vance smiled and waved in a blue suit while disembarking the plane, despite the rain. He then climbed into the car of the US diplomatic corps. He was guarded by snipers, dogs, and surveillance from a police helicopter circling above.

Along with Vance’s meeting with Giorgia Meloni, he is also expected to meet with the Vatican Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin.
