A 17-year-old has been arrested for the death of 19-year-old shot and killed in Caserta slot shop

Davide Carbisiero, 19, deceased

ROME – A 17-year-old was arrested Monday for the murder of 19-year-old Davide Carbisiero in a slot machine hall on Sunday morning in the province of Caserta, in Campania, police have said.

The Naples Juvenile Prosecutor's Office has issued an arrest warrant for the young aggressor. The murder of Carbisiero, who was from Succivo took place on Sunday morning, when the he was hit in the jugular by a gunshot. Investigations by the Carabinieri are still ongoing in order to reconstruct the exact circumstances of the crime and uncover the motive. The arrested minor has been transferred to the Naples Juvenile Justice Center pending his hearing.

The victim's body was found inside a slot machine hall in Cesa at 7 a.m. on Sunday, with at least three gunshot wounds. The young man had no criminal record, but due to the circumstances, which could suggest a Camorra-style ambush, both the regular Prosecutor's Office of Naples North and the Anti-Mafia District Directorate of Naples are looking into this murder, in an attempt to verify any links with organized crime.

For now, investigators are trying to understand if the death could be in some way connected to the father of the 19-year-old's girlfriend, who has a conviction for drug dealing and was recently released from prison.  The Carabinieri of the Investigative Unit of Aversa and the magistrates were still interviewing people throughout Monday, who could be implicated in the murder. In fact, there are already some suspects, that have been identified thanks to video surveillance cameras.

The incident was reported by the owner of the slot machine hall, who had discovered the body when he went to open the adjacent bar and the Carabinieri immediately interviewed several people, including friends of the 19-year-old. They then analysed images from the cameras, collected some cartridges found on the floor and acquired information in relation to the father of Carbisiero's girlfriend and his drug dealing conviction. The situation is also made disturbing by the manner of the crime, which - as mentioned - suggest an ambush attributable to organized crime and a sort of settling of scores. What is certain, so far, is that the young Carbisiero had never had problems with the police himself.

On Saturday evening, the Carabinieri ascertained, the 19-year-old had accompanied his girlfriend home and then gone to the slot machine hall, where the murder took place. It is likely that at the time of the crime there were also other people, who then fled, leaving Carbisiero to die. The slot machine room operates 24 hours a day, but the owner only found the body this morning when he went to open the adjacent bar - the two premises have different entrances: via Atellana for the bar, via Berlinguer for the slot machine room. There was a palpable sentiment of grief today in Cesa, where many people and especially young people, including friends and relatives of the 19-year-old Carbisiero, gathered near the crime scene, to try to understand what had happened.

The Mayor of Cesa, Enzo Guida, commented that, “to lose your life at 19 years of age is always an unexplainable thing, whatever the circumstances in which such a death occurs. And what is disconcerting is the ease with which minors have access to weapons. At the moment the motives for such an act are still unknown. We know that the police and magistrates have worked and are still working in a professional and incessant manner to shed some light on this dramatic event. 80% of Cesa is covered these days with video surveillance cameras and this has become a useful support to the investigations. It is also clear that at this moment in which there are two families who, for different reasons, have been hit with grief”.
