Charles and Camilla conclude their trip to Italy

ROME – For the final day of their Italy state visit King Charles and Queen Camilla joined the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella again at Palazzo Merlato, Ravenna Town Hall.
The Head of State awaited them there, with the all the various authorities and in the company of his daughter Laura at the entrance to the Town Hall. Hours prior Charles had visited the Basilica of San Vitale and the Mausoleum of Galla Placidia and at the Academy of Fine Arts in which the king had placed the last tile in a 'royal' mosaic of almost 6,000 pieces made for him. Camilla instead had dedicated herself to the Byron and Risorgimento Museum, meeting representatives of libraries and reading clubs. The couple had visited Dante’s tomb earlier in the day together.
The atmosphere was joyous, with many waiting since the early hours of the morning to catch a glimpse of the monarchs. Once in the Town Hall, the royals and President Mattarella met the City Council. Acting Mayor, Fabio Sbaraglia took the floor. In the pre-council room Charles and Camilla also met a delegation of English and Italian soldiers, including a 103-year-old veteran who managed to get up from his wheelchair in order to shake their hands.
The couple waved from the balcony of Palazzo Merlato, where the people in Piazza del Popolo cheered them on. Charles and Camilla then descended from the Town Hall arm in arm, with Mattarella at their side and then went into the stands at the Emilia-Romagna Festival below, tasting all of the culinary delights on offer.
Charles was gifted a little bag filled with Parmigiano Reggiano and balsamic vinegar and greeted the agricultural cooperatives, which were recently affected by a devastating flood, as well as the president of Legacoop Romagna, Paolo Lucchi. Traditional Liscio music and dance enlivened the square, whilst “Romagna mia” played once again and people crowded around the royal procession for a photo and a handshake. The royals and president then departed from Piazza Garibaldi, concluding what appered to be a very successful and well-received trip to Italy.
