Roma legend Totti investigated for tax evasion and child abandonment allegations

ROME -Italian football legend Francesco Totti is under investigation for allegedly failing to file a mandatory tax return, according to Il Fatto Quotidiano. Authorities claim he should have opened a VAT account to account for earnings from sponsorship deals but failed to do so promptly. The initial tax liability, reportedly modest, grew to over €200,000 due to accrued interest.

Totti has since resolved the debt by paying the Revenue Agency. Despite this, he has been registered as a suspect in the prosecutor’s office, with a summons expected in the coming days.

The tax evasion case is not Totti's only legal trouble. He is also facing allegations of child abandonment, stemming from a complaint filed by his ex-wife, TV presenter Ilary Blasi, according to Il Fatto Quotidiano. Blasi accused Totti of leaving their youngest daughter alone in May 2023. Totti refuted the claims, stating the child had been left in the care of a babysitter, a detail reportedly confirmed by police investigations.

These developments come amid broader public and media attention on Totti following his high-profile separation from Blasi. While the tax issue appears resolved financially, the legal process and its implications for Totti's public image remain ongoing.
