Medvedev no challenge for Sinner in Shanghai quarter-final

Jannik Sinner confidently beat Daniil Medvedev in their quarter-final showdown

ROME - Jannik Sinner has progressed to his 11th semi-final of the season after thrashing Russian Daniil Medvedev 6-1 6-4 in their quarter-final match in the Rolex Shanghai Masters. Sinner’s total prize pot for the year currently stands at 8,995,555 dollars, with another 1,262,220 dollars available if he were to win the tournament.

The Russian proved no match for the man from Italy, as Sinner expelled his opponent in only one hour 24 minutes. Sinner was clinical with his shot selection, often approaching the net to hit unreturnable volleys, and utilising his vicious backhand to which the Russian had no answer.

This was the fifth time the pair had met this year, with Sinner winning four out of five meetings, meaning that in head-to-head matches the duo are now tied 7-7. Sinner has now won a staggering 63 matches this season with only six defeats, putting him fifth in the all-time winning percentage rankings at Masters 1000 events – the Italian sits only behind, Alcaraz, Federer, Nadal and Djokovic.

Sinner will face the winner of Carlos Alcaraz and Tomas Machac in his semi-final match, as his goal of ending the season as world number one creeps ever closer.
