Concern over ‘sex predators’ at expat social club

ROME – Members of the InterNations high-end social club for expats Iiving and working abroad have expressed concern that too many predatory Italian males attending the social network’s events in Italy are treating its gatherings ‘like a brothel’ where they can hit on foreign women, expats say.

One member who said she had appreciated the InterNations formula for bringing together single foreign professionals in other countries where she was based previously said that she was shocked by the set-up at a recent Rome event in a posh hotel.

“There were hordes of Italian men swooping on the event who were obviously determined to have sex the same night with the foreign women who were there in good faith,” said the member.

“One of the Italians, a Sicilian, propositioned a foreign woman to have sex with him immediately in the bathroom of the hotel. It was gross. Some of them seemed to think they were visiting a bordello.”

InterNations says that it has over 5 million members who “interact with each other in a secure online and offline environment about their individual and shared experience abroad.”

However the feedeback from recent Rome events raises questions whether the  commercial aims of the German-based company owning the club have led it to turn a blind eye when filtering members, at leasr in the Eternal City.
