Teacher attacked by Mafia clan member in Ostia

ROME -- A teacher in Ostia was attacked in the courtyard of her school by the mother of one of her students in response to her previously reprimanding the woman’s son, according to recent police reports.

The teacher alerted authorities following the assault yet refused medical treatment upon their arrival. The Carabinieri have identified the perpetrator as the wife of a member of the Spada clan, a mafia group that operates in and around the Ostia area within the Municipality of Rome.  At this time, the victim has not pressed charges.

On Monday, the student had reportedly been aggressive with one of his peers, a behaviour that was picked up on by the teacher. The student recounted the incident when he returned home, prompting his mother to protest in an act of violence the following day. The assault was witnessed by both parents and teachers.

“You are not allowed to scold him. We are from the Spada clan.” She allegedly said before beginning the attack.

Minister for Education, Giuseppe Valditara, took to X to show his support. “In the coming days, I will be at the Amendola Guttuso Institute in Ostia to show my solidarity with the teacher attacked by a member of the Spada clan. No one should be allowed to touch a teacher. The State will make its power known against those who do not respect educators.”
