Woman dies after falling from zipline in Albaredo San Marco

ROME -- A woman aged 41 has died after falling from a Fly Emotion zipline in Alabaredo San Marco in the Sondrio province. The victim has been named as Ghizlane Moutahir, from the Lecco area. Workers from the Morbegno Mountain Rescue reported that she died on impact, sustaining injuries “not compatible with life”.
Hooked to a rope hanging over the Bitto Valley, the woman reached a maximum speed of 120km/h before slipping from the harness near the end of the line and falling from a height of 20m. The attraction, which was inaugurated in 2011, spans one and a half kilometres from Albaredo to Bema and reaches a maximum height of 360m.
The harness remained attached to the zipline, with investigations now taking place to understand how the woman slipped from the safety systems which held her to the cable. The authorities were not called by staff, but by a third person, with the Mountain Rescue Service, the fire brigade and the Carabinieri all attending the scene.
“It is not yet known exactly what happened. I am shocked and in disbelief.” disclosed Matteo Sanguineti, CEO of Fly Emotion, “We are at the complete disposal of the judiciary, which is now investigating, and we are close to the victim’s family. The aerial system was opened in 2011. We have had 200,000 people fly across the countryside from Bema to Albaredo. We have never had an incident of any sort. Everything is done in complete safety with a specific harness. I am stunned and in disbelief.”
