Milanese bus driver ran over and killed woman while sexting

MILAN – A Milanese bus driver has been sentenced to a two-year license suspension, almost two years after killing a pedestrian while he was exchanging erotic messages instead of watching the road, police reported Thursday. The 49-year-old bus driver was messaging at the time of the accident, making him guilty of road homicide
The victim was 53-year-old Cristina Conforti, a Milan resident and administrative employee at the Municipality of Bresso. She was run over and killed by the bus in December 2020, with the official conviction being released in 2022. Her husband, Franco Carpentieri commented on the ruling, saying he was “bitter and speechless” at the lack of justice. After further investigation by police, it was revealed that the bus driver was partaking in the erotic messaging from 3:20 – 3:25 p.m. and emergency services were called for Cristina Conforti at 3:27 p.m., merely two minutes after the last text was sent. It was clear to police that the accident was caused by the negligence of the driver.
Cristina’s husband further said, “it seems that the driver was habitually connected to these chats during working hours. It's as if he was playing Russian roulette. This left a bitter taste in our mouths. Had it been an accident caused by a stroke of sleep or glare we could perhaps live with it. But in this case, no.”
The preliminary hearing judge also sentenced the driver to a year and a half in prison, which Carpentieri thinks is far too short of a prison sentence for the gravity of the crime. He said, “you kill someone and are almost guaranteed to get off easy,” in an interview with Correrie Della Sera.
The poignant words of the victim’s husband were, “it is not justice.”
