Bus driver suspended for watching film on the job

ROME – One of the capital's bus drivers was indefinitely suspended from service on Monday for watching a film while working, ATAC confirmed.
On Monday morning, a passenger on the number 32 bus terminating at Piazza Risorgimento noticed a small screen to the left of the driver, which was playing a film even while the bus was moving. The driver’s cabin was obscured from the rest of the bus by pieces of paper stuck to the glass window, in an apparent effort to conceal the misconduct and prevent identification. Yet a small gap allowed the passenger to record the incident on their mobile phone, and this footage was later uploaded to Twitter. Following an outcry at the irresponsible behaviour on the website, ATAC, the capital’s public transport company, identified the individual and suspended him without pay,
In response to the incident, ATAC released this statement, “Ending this behaviour is the first goal we have set ourselves to bring back the correct quality to the service we offer. This is about a few cases that damage our whole image. The majority of ATAC’s 11,000 employees perform their role correctly.”
