Probe into advisors of Gucci widow, 3 million in assets missing

Patrizia Reggiani

MILAN – Eight people are under investigation as part of a probe into an alleged attempt to bilk millions of euros from the inheritance of Patrizia Reggiani – dubbed the “Black Widow” by Italian media after she was accused and convicted of hiring a hit-man in 1995 to kill her ex-husband, fashion dynasty heir Maurizio Gucci.

The investigation into the activities of the advisers to the Gucci widow was sparked by Allegra Gucci, one of the two daughters of Patricia and Maurizio Gucci, who claimed that three million euros in assets of the family inheritance had gone astray due to bad advice.

Loredana Canò, the ex-cellmate of Patrizia, is also under suspicion.

The suspects are being investigated for taking advantage of an incapacitated person, embezzlement, theft, and corruption.

Patrizia's mother, Silvana Barbieri, who died in 2019, had bequeathed her daughter a villa in the centre of Milan along with a warehouse and several real estate companies.

Canò entered Patrizia’s life shortly before the death of her mother. Coming to live in the Gucci widow’s home, Canò allegedly acquired “full control of domestic management,” and is also suspected of preventing daughters Allegra and Alessandra as well as Patrizia’s friends from visiting, according to investigators.

Hired as Reggiani's "personal assistant" with an income of 1,600 euros a month, Canò is also suspected of pilfering jewels and having Reggiani sign documents that would make Canò the beneficiary of 60 thousand euros.
