ROME – Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi should go to Kiev together with his counterparts from

Germany, France, Spain and Poland to send a strong message of solidarity with Ukraine against the Russian

invasion, Italian Democratic Party leader Enrico Letta says.

 "I strongly insist that the prime ministers of the five great European countries, Germany, Italy, France, Spain

and Poland, go together to Kiev and together be able to take a European and pro-European initiative, giving

the Ukrainians the sign of a very strong closeness" Letta told La 7 television.

 “I am afraid that the Ukrainians will soon say that we prefer Americans and Brits to you Europeans,” he

added. "To want peace, the Ukrainians need to be helped and Europe needs unity."

 There was no immediate reaction to the proposal from Palazzo Chigi. Draghi was in Washington this week

for talks with U.S. President Biden. The Polish prime minister already has travelled to Kiev once since the

Russian invasion together with Slovene, Slovak and Czech leaders.
