Draghi says Italians must be prepared for rationing

ROME – In a press conference mostly addressing the end of Covid-19 restrictions, Prime Minister Mario Draghi also answered questions about the war in Ukraine, saying that the current situation does not require rationing but that Italians must “prepare themselves for that eventuality,” political sources said.
"If things continue to get worse we should begin to enter into a logic of rationing," said the premier, while making clear that there is no alarm yet.
A journalist asked him if citizens need to change their food and energy consumption habits, following the upheavals brought about by the war. Draghi replied firmly, "it is not yet the case.”
"Supply chain shortages of raw materials or food must be tackled like the issue of gas" through the "diversification of sources and aid to families,” said Draghi.
The Prime Minister confirmed that the temporary disappearance of the grain markets of Russia and Ukraine would create serious shortages and that supplies will need to be obtained from other parts of the world.
