First refugees from Ukraine arrive in Italy

TRIESTE – The first two buses of Ukrainian refugees, mostly women and children, arrived in Italy on Saturday and Sunday, said border police. Men are now obliged to remain in Ukraine and fight.
On Sunday morning, a bus with Ukrainian license plates arrived at the border of Fernetti in Trieste. About 50 people who had escaped from the war were on board, including women, children and two men, one of whom was the driver. The police and carabinieri were carrying out border checks. Ukrainians refugees from that bus mostly head to the homes of friends or acquaintances located in the northern part of Italy.
Another bus with around 40 refugees from Ukraine arrived in Piacenza on Saturday evening. According to Liberta newspaper, it took them 10 hours to cross the border between Poland and Ukraine.
In addition, yesterday's flight from Saint Petersburg, operated by the Rossiya company, was the last direct flight from Russia, which landed at Fiumicino Airport. On the board were approximately 60 passengers, including Italians and Russian citizens living in Italy. Palazzo Chigi has already announced the closure of Russian airspace by Italy.
