Section of roof blown off Milan station by 90kph winds
MILAN – A large panel of the roof was blown off Milan train station and three people were injured by falling trees after winds reached 90 k.m. per hour, battering the northern Italian city, meteorological sources said.
Technicians are checking the extent of the damage to the station and alternative routes have been set up for passengers.
All parks have been closed and citizens asked to stay home. The fire brigade have been called out to over 100 incidents so far.
The winds tore the roof from a nursery in the Segrate neighbourhood and some tiles have been blown off Sforzesco Castle.
An as yet unidentified worker fell from scaffolding at a construction site in Cornaredo. He was transported to the San Gerardo hospital in Monza by helicopter, in serious condition.
