NGOs rescue hundreds from Mediterranean in 24 hours

LAMPEDUSA -Just under 400 migrants stranded in the Mediterranean were rescued Tuesday night by German NGO rescue ships, Sea Eye 4 and Missions Lifeline, the NGOS announced Wednesday. the Sea Eye 4, much larger than Missions Lifeline, was already carrying 400 migrants rescued in days previous.
The NGOs reported that they intervened to help a two-story wooden boat with water leaking into the hull. "It is a shame that Malta has ignored the calls for help," they commented.
The 800 displaced people are now being transported to Lampedusa in the Sea Eye 4.
