Two arrested for anti-Covid restriction bombing in Avellino

AVELLINO - Two men have been arrested by the Carabinieri on suspicion of bombing an Avellino job centre in May 2020 as an act of protest against anti-Covid restrictions in place at the time, according to police sources. The explosion caused considerable damage to the job centre but no one was harmed.
Ubaldo Pelosi, 51, and Carmine Bassetti, 48, were arrested at dawn on Thursday by the Carabinieri Special Operations Group (ROS) and the Provincial Command of Avellino.
The two are members of the 'Spontaneous Popular Movements' (Movimenti Spontanei Popolari). They have been accused of "an act of terrorism with deadly or explosive devices, and for the manufacture, the possession and transport of explosives in a public place. They deny all charges.
The Movimenti Spontanei Popolari had allegedly wanted to denounce the then Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte for his "attack against the constitution of the State, abuse of office and violence," regarding his Covid restrictions.
According to the police investigations, Pelosi and Bassetti has taken part in several anti-government demonstrations and had planned another similar attack, which forever reason had never come to fruition.
