TARANTO - A 21-year-old man has died in hospital after being shot in the chest during a night time ambush on the streets of Taranto.

  According to reconstructions by local police, five shots were fired, one of which punctured the young man's lungs. Emergency services soon arrived on the scene and rushed him to the Santissima Annunziata hospital, hust a few hundred metres away. However, in hospital he suffered a cardiac arrest and died, despite numerous attempts to reanimate him, according to local media.

  At the news of his death, there were moments of tension between his family and friends and the police, who tried to calm them.

  The police are preliminarily investigating the possibility that the killing was a settling of accounts, linked to local drug dealing circles or "personal differences."
