Mandrarossa opens new winery on slopes of Menfi

AGRIGENTO - The Sicilian winemakers Mandrarossa have inaugurated a new winery in the heart of Menfishire (Menfi), “one of the most important wine districts of Sicily.”

The new 700 m2 complex consists of a barrel cellar, two tasting rooms, a wine shop and a terrace (looking out onto the beautiful wilderness of Menfi and its ‘Blue Flag’ beach), spread out on several levels, almost perfectly hidden in the natural slope of the Sicilian countryside.

The architecture of the new winery is a blend between modernity and perfect symbiosis with the landscape from which it rises, characterised by vineyards and olive groves sloping all the way from the sea.

The barrel room is dug into the slopes, becoming part of its environment, and using the natural humidity to create the perfect environment for the refining of the wine.

Environmental sustainability was a driving force behind much of the architecture, with several factors aimed at creating as little impact on the environment as possible, including aesthetically.

The complex features several solar panels, powering the winery, directed to get the most out of the winter sun, and a roof garden acting as natural insulation on all horizontal surfaces.

From June 21, the site will be offering several tastings, wine experiences and tours, as well as premium access to the vineyard’s new vintages.

The winery kitchen will also offer an incredible menu based on the surroundings and territory of Menfi, prepared by the renowned ‘Signore di Menfi’, who have spent years researching thee traditional and historical cuisine of Sicily, pairing it with new and sustainable culinary perspectives.
