Atalanta thrash Bologna 5-0 to briefly move to second

ROME - With European football still up in arms about the Super League, many of the big teams continuing to stand by it, the Italian Serie A continues with another goal-filled weekend of fixtures.
Atalanta beat Bologna 5-0 to take them into second place - though AC Milan are still to play Lazio on Monday night and could retake their silver medal position - last place Crotone beat 19th place Parma 4-3, though they remain two points behind. Cagliari managed a 3-2 victory over Roma, while Udinese beat Benevento 4-2.
Table leaders Inter Milan are now only two victories away (with five matches to get them) from a Serie A victory after beating Hellas Verona 1-0 on Sunday afternoon. The match was evenly weighted until the Inter defender Darmian came on as a substitute in the 65th minute and scored the decider just ten minutes later, finding himself with acres of space on the left hand side, calmly receiving the ball and slotting past the keeper.
Juventus meanwhile, their Super League co-conspirators, could only manage a 1-1 draw to 14th place Fiorentina, leaving them floundering in fourth. Dusan Vlahovic opened the scoring for Fiorentina in the 29th minute with a penalty (from an unfortunate handball in the area) calmly dinked over Juve’s Polish keeper Wojciech Szczesny.
The Spaniard Alvaro Morata was brought on at half time and provided Juve’s crucial equaliser with a sublime shot from a tight angle on the edge of the box, curled into the top corner in the 46th minute.
Atalanta, who have now snuck into second place, were considerably more lucky on Sunday, trouncing Bologna 5-0. Five separate players managed to get on the scoresheet for Atalanta, starting with Ruslan Malinovskyi in the 22nd minute, set up by a brilliant one-two Luis Muriel. Muriel then doubled the lead from the penalty spot in the 44th minute, before Remo Freuler added a third in the 57th minute, stealing the ball on the edge of the box and drilling it into the bottom corner. Duvan Zapata and Aleksej Miranchuk added the fourth and fifth, from well worked attacking passages into the box.
Roma, who are still battling for sixth place with Lazio, lost 3-2 on Sunday to Cagliari, currently hovering just above the relegation zone. An early goal for Cagliari through Charalampos Lykogiannis was cancelled out by Carles Perez in the 27th minute. By the 64th minute Cagliari had a two goal lead, with further goals from Razvan Marin and Joao Pedro. Federico Fazio’s goal in the 69th minute was not enough to earn any points for Roma, who are now four matches without a win.
