TOKYO - Andy Murray was the obvious missing link at the Japan Open, with the 2011 winner and poster boy for this year's edition making a recovery in London from back surgery performed a week prior to the start in Asia last month.
 
Murray is expected to miss the remainder of the ATP season, but will somehow have timed his rehabilitation after the minor surgery to deal with chronic back pain in time to front up for a multi-million-dollar exhibition payday in oil-rich Abu Dhabi starting the day after Christmas.

Rome - The opposition changes, but the wins keep coming for Roma in Serie A. The Giallorossi just can't stop scoring, and currently sit top of the league thanks to a blistering early start the likes of which has never been seen before at the Olimpico. 
 
Among those wins was an emphatic derby performance against local rivals Lazio, dispelling the ghosts which had lingered since May's depressing defeat to the Aquile in the historic all-Roman Coppa Italia final.

 ROME -- FAO staff carried out a short warning strike Tuesday to protest job cuts and management violating the UN agency's job security agreements, FAO sources said.

 Staff at the troubled Rome based Food and Agriculture Organisation had planned industrial action last week to coincide with the agency's World Food Week jamboree but FAO Director General José Graziano told staff representative bodies he would consider industrial action then a personal affront.

Giacomo Puccini's famous opera at the Teatro Margherita was a nice start to the beginning of the new season. It was a giant explosion in the tiny jewelry box of Rome.
