The former leader of the Santa Maria de Gesù clan was permitted to spend two weeks at home following a positive evaluation of his conduct in prison.
The decision of the court to grant this ‘permesso premio’ has raised significant alarm across Italy, not least because it is the third incident of a mafia boss receiving such a reward for good behaviour in custody.
ROME - Despite efforts to remain impartial, pundits have suggested Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni is supporting Vice President Kamala Harris in the US election over former President Donald Trump, purely to get one over Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini.
However, in the past she has been very transparent with her praise of Mr Trump. In 2020 after a meeting with the former president, Meloni praised the billionaire business mogul for his “defence of identity, borders, families, businesses and American products.”
ROME - Under the beating desert sun, Art D'Egypte unveils the installations that constitute this year's exhibiton, entitled Forever is Now. At the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Giza Plateau, in the shadow of three of Egypt's pyramids, 12 international artists are welcomed to share their work. One of these is Federica Di Carlo - a critically acclaimed Italian artist with a taste for merging science and art.
ROME - The trade unions for Trenitalia, Trenitalia, Trenitalia Tper, Fs Security, Italo Ntv, Trenord have gone on strike on Tuesday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. after a train conductor was stabbed whilst at work.
According to the initial investigation, on board the regional train from Genova-Busalla, the train conductor, Rosario Ventura, asked for the tickets from Egyptian Fares Kamel Salem Alshahhat and a female partner he was with.
ROME – Representatives from Sudan’s de facto military government have vehemently denied accusations of attacking the UAE’s embassy in the capital Khartoum. According to the Sudanese government, their opposition in the civil war, the paramilitary group ‘RSF’, is being funded by the UAE, and this is the main reason for the prolongation of the country’s brutal humanitarian crisis. The UAE’s claims that the Sudanese army targeted their embassy, according to Sudan’s Ambassador to Italy, are a mere attempt to ‘cover up’ their ‘criminal’ involvement in the country.
ROME. - In Piacenza, an armed gang staged a dramatic heist at a DHL warehouse. The heist took place in the dead of night on Sunday in the warehouse in Monticelli d’Ongina in the province of Piacenza.
The armed gang broke into the warehouse known to store over a million euros' worth of electronics and other goods. The total amount that they stole is yet undisclosed but it expected to reach at least the hundreds of thousands.
