VATICAN CITY – Cardinal Giovanni Angelo Becciu, who was convicted of fraud and embezzlement in Vatican court in 2023 has officially announced he will not enter Conclave on May 7, after initially contesting his removal from the list of eligible cardinals.
VATICAN CITY -- The conclave of cardinals to elect a new pontiff to succeed the late Pope Francis on St Peter's throne will begin on Wednesday May 7, the Vatican said Monday. The decision was made by a meeting of the Congregation of Cardinals held in the tiny city state.
More than 180 cardinals attended the Congregation, the fifth held so far since Francis died on Easter Monday, including more than 100 cardinals under the age of 80 eligible to vote for the next pope, the Vatican added.
ROME – On Monday 19-year-old, Salvatore Calvaruso was stopped by Police and stands accused on charges of massacre and illegal carrying and possession of a firearm following a fatal shooting in Monreale, Palermo Saturday night that led to the deaths of three young men, Andrea Miceli, Massimo Pirozzo and Salvatore Turdo, after a fight broke out between rival gangs in Piazza di Duomo, police said.
ROME – The Coast Guard of Palermo announced Wednesday that in early May, recovery operations will begin on the wreck of the Bayesian Yacht which was carrying Tech entrepreneur Mike Lynch, as well as his teenage daughter, Hannah Lynch, when it sank on Aug. 19, 2024 in the harbour of Porticello, at a depth of approximately 50 metres, leading to the death of 7 people.
VATICAN CITY - In the run up to the May Day workers' national holiday and during the conclave period, following the death of Pope Francis, the Association of Lay Employees of the Vatican – ADLV - is asking the Vatican to "protect especially the most vulnerable Vatican workers" and has raised a "concern about wages", according to Fatto Quotidiano.
