 ROME – Speculation that the ambitious Dutch agronomist Hans Hoogeveen has begun campaigning to be the next FAO director general has alarmed members of the Dutch community in the Eternal City after he was ousted from his position as treasurer of the hallowed Dutch Catholic Church in Rome, the Kerk van de Friezen, amid accusations he blundered in managing the traditional donation of Dutch tulips decorating St Peter’s Square during Easter ceremonies.

  ROME -- Two Milanese Vegan food producers, Giuseppe Loireo and his mother Giovanna Anoia, have made a plea bargain at the Milan Tribunal under which they pay a fine of 10,000 euros each to avoid serving a one year prison term each they received following their conviction on a manslaughter charge for the death of 20-year-old Anna Bellisario, who perished after consuming a fatal portion of their ‘vegan’ tiramisu at a restaurant,  court officials said on Tuesday.

 ROME – The FAO, in an apparent reprisal, has not renewed the contract of an Italian consultant who announced last year he was, together with other like-minded consultant colleagues, forming a trade union of consultants to combat worsening conditions at the Chinese-run agency, FAO sources said Monday.

 ROME -- Antonio Conte has been appointed as the new manager of Napoli, signing a three-year deal.

 The former Juventus and Inter Milan head coach, who also managed Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League, had been out of work since leaving the North London club in March 2023.

  CINISI, Sicily-- Two tourists were robbed in a taxi in Cinisi by four men attempting to steal what turned out to be a fake Rolex watch, the police have said. 

  The two Italian tourists, who have been living in the Czech Republic, were spotted by the four men in Albertini beach in Cinisi, Sicily. The pair were then followed as they headed towards Palermo, with the four men flanking their taxi with two large bikes and robbing them.
