Bergamo Food Film Fest highlights food wastage

BERGAMO – The Cultural Association Art Maiora in Bergamo was hosting the seventh edition of Food Film Fest Village in Piazza Mascheroni on Thursday. The festival kicked off with a discussion around the topic of food waste around the world with the name “I eat you and everyone eats you.”

The guests for the discussion were Simon De Rita, Director General of the Italian Committee for the World Food Programme, Marco Lucchini, Secretary General of the Food Bank Foundation Onlus and Dr. Antonio Sorice, a vet and President of SIMeVeP. One third of the four billion tonnes of food produced each year goes to waste, costing the global economy around 750 billion dollars a year. The discussion was looking to teach us how to contribute together to reduce food waste beginning with changes to our everyday life.

There was then an event involving chefs Enrico and Roberto Cerea from the acclaimed restaurant Da Vittorio, who were demonstrating how to prepare one of their famous recipes. After this the projections of the films in the competition began and the evening ended with a tasting offered by Coldiretti Bergamo in collaboration with local Farm Businesses.
