Taranto sold out for the Medimex 2018

Medimex International Festival and Music Conference

ROME – Over 90 percent of accommodation in Taranto was sold out for the Medimex weekend (from June 7 to 10, 2018). This is confirmed by the bookings made on the main hospitality sites (Booking and Airbnb) and monitored by the PugliaPromotion Observatory, which measures a 10 percent increase in arrivals compared to the same period of the previous year; a variation calculated on about 20 structures of the city that have already transmitted data on the movement of customers through SPOT (Puglia System for the Tourist Observatory). The tourists who stayed in Taranto during Medimex came from Italy (76.4 percent, of which 38.5 percent from Puglia, 16 percent from Campania and 10 percent from Lazio). Among the foreigners, the most noticeable share was made up by Spaniards (14 percent) ex aequo with tourists coming from the United Kingdom followed by Brazil and France at 8 percent.

“The success of the Medimex tourism in Taranto also confirms the strategic choice to link the Puglia brand to the great events of music, art and entertainment,” says the Councillor for Tourism and Cultural Industry, Loredana Capone – “#weareinpuglia is the hashtag which now appears in all events and events, thanks to the agreement between Pugliapromozione and Apulian Public Theatre; in this way, every great event contributes to communicating the Puglia brand.”

Social data is also interesting on Medimex.

As for Facebook, the event was promoted on WeAreinPuglia, Puglia 365 and Puglia Events.

The posts were shown to the public 56,731 times and viewed by 44,008 users, while the interactions were 1,710. On Instagram, on the WeAreinPuglia and Puglia Events channels, however, the event was shown through live video, narrations and comments, reaching a total of 122,659 users who have seen the comments. While 154,658 are the times that the comments were shown and 11,720 were the interactions.

The data provided by Tim on the traffic detected by telephones during Medimex days shows an increase in attendance during the Medimex event hours, compared to the same days of the previous week. The event, therefore, saw a concentration of visitors in the area. Both residents in the area and foreigners recorded a 10 percent increase on Saturday compared to the previous one.

“The strategy of a Pugliapromozione-Pugliasounds agreement on Medimex is part of the broader vision of tourism linked to events like in the 2018 campaign. Puglia is the show everywhere,” commented Luca Scandale, responsible for the Puglia365 Strategic Plan. “Inserting the Puglia brand on all the material of Medimex 2018 and the hashtag #weareinpuglia on stage during the concerts proved quite successful to promote media communication and engagement by the public.”

The Medimex 2018, International Festival & Music Conference promoted by Puglia Sounds, the Puglia Region programme for the development of the Apulian music system is a complex of events distributed over four days of shows, professional activities, author meetings, workshops and exhibitions in one of the most beautiful cities in Italy. A choice strongly desired by the Puglia Region and Puglia Sounds in the belief that the future of Taranto passes through beauty and culture. And precisely the future was the guideline of this Medimex 2018 which was developed through a dense programme of initiatives aimed at music professionals and the general public.

The 2019 edition will also take place in the City of the Two Seas, from 6 to 9 June.
