Vasto-- An angry husband took revenge upon the man who killed his wife in a car accident months earlier. Fabio Lello (34) fired a succession of 9mm at Italo D’Elisa killing the 21 year old in the entrance of the Drink Bar café in Vasto, police said. This killing was carried out as revenge after D’Elisa struck and killed Di Lello’s wife, Roberta Smargiassi, in July 2016. A local was on the scene and recorded the entire encounter. The two had spoken for a while before Di Lello checked his gun and shot D’Elisa three times. The final shot in the neck is believed to be what killed him.

Yesterday the autopsy of the corpse occurred in Chieti hospital. The autopsy has been assigned to the forensic director of the hospital by the deputy prosecutor of the Republic of Vastt, Gabrielle De Lucia. The head of the investigation asked for the examination to take place in Chieti in order to run a series of comparative tests with the help of images in the possession of the Caribinieri.

“It’s a deed that shakes you to your core” said major Giancarlo Vitiello of the Carabinieri in Vasto and we can’t help but reflect on the deed. “It has disrupted the entire city.” The issue has also been intervened in by the Trade Union for Autonomous Police who took issue with the “failure of the judicial system” which had already been criticised for its failure to see justice done. The archbishop of Chieti-Vasto said that he was “saddened by the fact this young man was exasperated by the slowness of a justice system that gave no signs bringing the man who killed his wife to justice. Revenge is never justice, it brings only more suffering and evil.”

The Chief Prosecutor is of a different opinion. Gampiero Di Florio. He claimed that the investigation had lasted only 110 days and that to reach a verdict in fewer than eight months is speedy and should be commended.
