60 tremors recorded at Etna

INSIDER NEWSDESK-- 60 individual earthquakes on Etna have led to schools being evacuated but the Italy’s National Geology Institute claims that the tremors, recorded earlier today, are in keeping with previously recorded trends and that there is nothing to worry about.

The National Geology Institute has monitored tremors that reached magnitudes of 3.5 at a depth of between 10 and 15 kilometres. According to the experts: “The magnitude of the volcanic tremors stayed at a low to medium level in keeping with our findings in the last few months.”

It only took a few hours for 60 seismic events to occur although this is said to be the norm. As of 12:45 today these events were monitored in the Ragalna, Monte Parmentelli and Monte San Leo areas. These “medium to low” readings are due to the moderate activity in the new crater in the South-East of the volcano.

As is standard procedure in these cases, schools in Ragalna, Nocolosi and Bronte in the Catanese region have been evacuated. At this moment, no damage to property or people has been recorded.
