Escaped Bengali tiger returned to owners

INSIDER NEWSDESK—A white tiger that arrived with a circus in Palermo on the 19th of January and escaped from the Svezio Circus has been captured and returned to its owners.

On Saturday morning, the alarm went up that the animal had been located as police rushed to the area in search of the tiger in the neighbourhood of Monreale. With the animal captured the circus intend to place the tiger back on show as early as Monday. The tiger was spotted by several drivers around the Monreale bypass, in a car park between via Candido and via Venero. The cat’s escape reportedly occurred early in the morning, around dawn. The search effort has been aided not only by the police but by the circus’ animal trainers. The animal in question is a Bengal tiger.

Certain passers ensured that the tiger entered the walled off compound of the Ferreri ceramics factory while they waited for animal control to arrive and tranquilise the cat to neutralise any potential for further danger. Traffic in the area was diverted and a crowd of people who had gathered to watch the spectacle was dispersed once the forestry commission’s marksmen arrived and waited for vets to prepare an appropriate dose to tranquilise the animal to capture it.

The cage provided by the Svezia Circus was successfully used to capture the animal by police and tamers alike. The animal was returned to the circus by mid-day on Saturday and there is unanimous agreement that the methods used to capture the tiger were correct, bearing in mind the tiger was in a fenced off area.
