Colombian president will explain peace process at Assisi

 ASSISI -- Italian politicians will meet Colombian president Juan Manuel Santos, winner of the Nobel Peace Prize, in this Umbrian city Saturday, where he will elucidate the peace process in Colombia, the Sacred Convent of Assisi said.

 The Nobel Peace Prize-winner will meet the Italian president of the Senate Pietro Grasso, and Interior Minister Marco Minniti, Saturday at 11 a.m. before receiving the Lamp of San Francesco from the Guardian of the Sacred Convent of Assisi Fr. Mauro Gambetti.

 Here, Santos will elucidate the historical peace agreement between the Colombian government and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, the leftist FARC guerrilla army, for which he received the peace prize.

 The president will be welcomed with an honour guard at the Superior Basilica of Saint Francis, and he will also visit the tombs of Saint Francis of Assisi to pray and confide about his work in the processes of reconciliation in this south-American country.

 There will then be a Christmas concert in the Basilica directed by William Eddins, with 15-year-old prodigy Ziyu He, and The Swingle on the violin. They will be accompanied by the RAI’s National Symphonic Orchestra, the ‘Small Musicians’ and ‘Coenobium vocale’ choirs, led by Mario Mora and Maria Dal Bianco.

 The Colombian president will then meet journalists at 17.15 the Press Office of Assisi’s Sacred Convent.

 The Christmas concert will be broadcast on RAI 1 Dec. 25 at 12.30.
