Gulf youngsters dialogue with Italian counterparts

Elisabetta Belloni, Secretary General of MAECI

ROME -- The Istituto Affari Internazionali (International Affairs Institute) IAI contributed to the organisation of a half-day event entitled ‘Youth and Intercultural Dialogue: Italian and GCC Voices’ Wednesday at the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Organised in cooperation with the Secretariat of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and under the patronage of the Foreign Ministry, the meeting brings a delegation of around 60 young people from the six countries of the GCC, together with a group of 30 Italian counterparts to engage in a far-ranging intercultural dialogue.

Welcoming remarks will be delivered by Elisabetta Belloni, Secretary General of MAECI, followed by two keynote speeches by Nathalie Tocci, IAI Deputy Director and Special Advisory to the EU High Representative Federica Mogherini, and Waleed Farhan Al Farhan, Director of the Youth Department at the GCC Secretariat.

The event will include a series of presentations related to Italian projects in the entrepreneurial, high-tech and multimedia information and communication domains. Serving as examples of positive civic engagement, the presentations will serve to spark interest and drive the debate between Italian and GCC youth.

As the first event of its kind to take place in Italy, the meeting aims to promote Italy as a bridge between Europe and the Arab world. The organisers hope the seminar will serve to launch an ongoing cycle of events aimed at fostering dialogue and understandings between Europe and the Arab world in general and Italian and the GCC youth in particular.

Media representatives are encouraged to participate. Interview opportunities will be available with members of the Italian and GCC delegations.
