Royal Navy spearheads big-scale migrant rescue mission

 ROME -- A total of 1,134 migrants were rescued in the Central Mediterranean throughout one day in nine different rescue operations coordinated by the Roman Coast Guard’s Operation Centre, the Italian ministry of Transport and Infrastructure said Tuesday.

 The migrants, who were aboard eight inflatable rafts and one small boat, were rescued by the Coastal Guard’s ‘Nave Diciotti,’ ‘Nave Aviere’ and ‘Nave Cigala Fulgosi’ from the military marines within the ‘Mare Sicuro’ (Safe Sea) deployment, and by the British Royal Navy ECHO, within the EunavforMed deployment.

 The British ship that was involved in the rescue operation is called Echo and on that occasiokn rescued 79 people.
