Matteo Renzi leaves the Quirinal palace
ROME -- Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi formally resigned Wednesday at a meeting with President Sergio Mattarella, the Quirinal Palace said.
The head of state will begin consultations Thursday evening to try and find a prime minister designate to whom he can give a mandate to try and form a new government.
Renzi announced on Monday he would resign after losing the referendum on constitutional reform.
