Migrant shipwreck: 15 saved, more feared lost at sea

The crew of an oil tanker managed to rescue 15

CATANIA -- Yet another makeshift boat packed with migrants was found shipwrecked in the treacherous voyage to reach Italian shores Monday evening arriving from the Libyan coast, maritime sources say.

Whilst 15 have been rescued, tens of people are still feared lost at sea.

The Italian Coast Guard are coordinating the rescue of those believed to be missing, sending numerous teams and services to the location of the shipwreck and beyond.

An oil tanker managed to pull 15 migrants to safety, saving their lives. According to reports, the tanker, located in the same location as the shipwreck, saw the migrants and called for help.

The sea was extremely rough Monday night. Nearing the migrant boat, the crew of the tanker found 15 people in the ocean who were immediately pulled aboard their ship and later transferred to the Coast Guard ship ‘Diciotti,’ set to arrive Tuesday evening in Catania.
