Thousands of migrants arrive in Italy

The Siem Pilot ship with 1,117 on board -- 17 already dead -- arrived at Palermo

 ROME -- Around 4,292 migrants are arriving in various Italian ports following rescue missions between the North African coast and Sicily.

 This number is made up of the merchant vessel, Tanker Okyroe, carrying 758 passengers, and the Siem Pilot ship with 1,117 on board -- 17 already dead -- which arrived at Palermo. Also, Dignity arrived at Trapani with 552 people, one dead, whilst Werra is heading for Messina with 857 migrants. In Crotone, a boat of 358 migrants is set to arrive, meanwhile the Beckett ship will dock in Pozzallo with 650 migrants aboard.

 In the Sicilian strait, rescue teams are awaiting the Dattilo ship with 434 migrants aboard, the Luventa ship with 278 and the Rio Segura ship with 117 rescued from the Libyan coast.

 Italian Foreign Minister, Paolo Gentiloni, said of the immigration crisis, “Italy plays its part in a civil way, but naturally we cannot do everything alone. It has to be very clear that this is also a message to Europe,” at the Fiumicino airport where another 75 Syrian migrants have been accepted from Beirut thanks to the pilot project ‘Human Corridors.'
