Wingsuit diver plunges to death

Alexander Polli makes a dive

CHAMONIX — The Italo-Norwegian base jumper Alexander Polli has died age 31 in the resort of Chamonix at an altitude of around 1,500 metres, officials said. The incident took place in the late morning, at around 10:55 A.M., when he made a jump and crashed into a tree.

Upon landing, four fellow jumpers ran to the site of the incident and immediately raised the alarm. The young man was still alive and conscious when the rescue team arrived, but died a few minutes later from cardiac arrest.

Polli was somewhat of a legend in extreme sports and founded the ‘Goodbye Morals’ group, where famous sportsmen upload videos of spectacular achievements online. The jumper had gathered quite a following on his Youtube channel, with almost five million views to his name.

He is commonly known as the 'Human Flight Athlete', and would regularly reach speeds of over 250 kph.

The description to his channel reads: "Live with intention. Walk to the edge. Listen hard. Practice wellness. Play with abandon. Laugh. Choose to live with no regret."

Only last week, the Tyrolese base jumper Uli Emanuele died in Switzerland after a similarly fatal dive.
